Stevele: “They take Abramovich’s team, it’s not fair”
Newcastle co-owner Amanda Staveley said in a statement what is happening to Roman Abramovich selling Chelsea as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine is not fair.
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, most Western countries, including Britain, decided to impose sanctions on Russia, as well as on the country’s magnates.
The above developments also affected Chelsea, with Roman Abramovich announcing his intention to sell the Blues. He even stressed that he is not asking for the money the club owes him and that all money from the sale of Chelsea will go to the victims of the war in Ukraine.
Newcastle co-owner Amanda Stevelly defended Abramovich, stressing that it was an unfair development and that they were essentially taking the team away from the Russian tycoon: “We’re always going to have geopolitical issues. People are always going to have issues. I know it’s very difficult and I’m sad because they take someone’s team because of the relationship they have with someone. I don’t think that it’s fair.”
In fact, he ruled out the possibility of being created with Saudi Arabia similar conditionswhich could lead to sanctions against the country behind Newcastle.
“Obviously not. I was so optimistic about this relationship. It’s not Saudi Arabia, it’s the Public Investment Fund. I knew there was only one investor for Newcastle, I knew who he was and there were no signs of a collapse for us, but for the fans.” said Stevley.
