Watford 2-3 Arsenal: unscathed past Vicarage Road and on to the Champions League
Arsenal continued their upward trend at Vicarage Road, with Arteta’s side beating Watford 3-2 and claiming four straight wins that put them on track for the Champions League.
Arsenal are on a very good moon and the latest proof came on Sunday afternoon (6/3) when the Londoners beat Watford 3-2 away to enter the top 4, leaving them dreaming of a Champions League appearance in the new season.
In fact, it was the Gunners’ fourth consecutive success, although the Wasps, for their part, have been unable to halt their relegation which takes them to the second division, knowing that they have suffered their eighth consecutive home defeat in the Premier League.
The game
The game in the first few minutes wasn’t impressive at all as both teams found a goal. Arsenal went first, Edegaard receiving an assist from Saka and executing a sliding cross on Foster in the 5th minute (0-1). Watford reacted immediately when Hernandez leveled a Femenia cross with a terrible scissor to make it 1-1 in the 11th minute.
After half an hour of fighting, the gunners again took the lead, again in cooperation. This time, Lacazette was the creator and Saka the enforcer to send the ball to the left corner of Foster’s goal with a pitch in wide area to make it 2-1.
In the 52nd minute, Lacazette served for the second time in the game and Martinelli made it 3-1 with an incredible right foot shot from wide of the large area, with Watford reducing to 2-3 with a Sissoko spot in 87′ but failing to catch with the remaining minutes to do something more to change their fate and get out of the relegation zone.
At the same time, Arteta’s players celebrated their fourth straight league victory and are optimistic about the future when it comes to finishing fourth, which gives the last ticket to the new Champions League.
