War in Ukraine: Premier League and FA stop broadcasting their games in Russia
The Premier League has suspended the broadcast agreement for its games in Russia after invading Ukraine.
The Premier League has decided to stop broadcasting its games on Russian territory due to the invasion of Ukraine.
The suspension of the agreement with Okko Sport in the amount of 7,500,000 euros per year, is immediate and the decision was made after just 15 minutes at a meeting of 20 clubs in London on Thursday.
The measure comes into effect on Thursday when there are four postponed games that will not be broadcast in Russia.
In further resolutions of the meeting of the associations, which lasted a total of four hours, 1,000,000 should be donated to the Ukrainian people.
“We call for peace and our thoughts are with those affected. The donation goes to the Committee for Emergency Disasters to provide humanitarian assistance to those in need.” mentions, among other things, a corresponding announcement.
In addition, the FA have decided to suspend the broadcasting of matches under their auspices in Russia, meaning the English Cup quarter-finals will not be shown this month. The same applies to the EFL, which hosts the championship, among other things.
