Chelsea: Abramovich can sell the club under very specific conditions
Chelsea can be sold despite the severe sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich, but some very specific conditions are required.
THE Roman Abramovich Bank of New York had hired Raine Group to handle the process of finding a buyer for Chelsea, with the deadline for expressions of interest extending to 15 shares.
“It has been involved in the destabilization of Ukraine and has undermined and threatened the territorial integrity, self-determination and independence of Ukraine.” Boris Johnson’s government stated, among other things, in the announcement of the sanctions that led to the “freezing” of Abramovich’s assets in the country.
One of them is Chelsea, which has been granted a special permit for essential operations, which includes a maximum of 20,000 euros for travel expenses for an away game.
The country’s Department for Digital World, Culture, Media and Sport has issued its own announcement in which it clarifies what applies to the “Blues” sales process.
“Although the current license does not allow the club to be sold, the government is open to a sale and would consider applying for a new license that would allow it. The penalized persons cannot reap the benefits while they are subject to sanctions.” mentioned among other things in his announcement.
The 55-year-old businessman had said in announcing the club’s intention to sell that all proceeds from the trial will be donated to charity in support of victims of the war in Ukraine, without specifying if any part of it will go to war in Russia. .
