UK Foreign Secretary: ‘Potential Chelsea buyers should speak to government’
UK Energy Secretary Chris Philip has commented on the steps a potential Chelsea buyer would need to take in order for the sale to proceed.
Roman Abramovich is among seven Russian oligarchs sanctioned by the UK government with the result that the sale of Chelsea is ‘frozen’.
Chelsea are in a difficult position after the sanctions and indeed the Blues’ viability is under threat. The country’s Department for Digital World, Culture, Media and Sport issued its own statement clarifying what has to do with the Londoners’ sale process.
Asked by Sky News about the incident, UK Energy Secretary Chris Philippe said the potential buyer would need to speak to the Government to find out the terms of the sale.
“As the terms of the license are written today, no sale can be made. However, should a buyer emerge, they will be ready to approach the government and ask about the terms that would allow such a sale.” expressly mentioned.
