Crystal Palace 0-0 Manchester City: The Eagles cut off the champion’s wings
Manchester City had the chances but not the coveted goal at Selhurst Park, with the English champions staying 0-0 with Crystal Palace and going +4 against Liverpool but with more games to play.
After Tottenham’s double win against Manchester City this year, Crystal Palace are also proving to be a nagging nuisance and evil demon for the English champions.
After beating Pep Guardiola’s side 2-0 away a few months ago, Patrick Vieira’s players “strike again” after beating Citizens 0-0 in a game of the Premier’s 29th game at Selhurst Park on Monday night ‘ had held the league and robbed them of two valuable points in the title race.
That’s because City are four points ahead of Liverpool, but if the Reds get the three-pointer in the postponed game against Arsenal, which takes place next Wednesday at the Emirates, then they’ll be closer to the point and while it’s in the program and the derby between them on April 10 at Etihad.
The game
In the first half, Manchester City had the most finals, several good scoring chances and control through possession, but lacked the essence of football: the goal. The Citizens threatened a shot from De Bruyne in the 14th minute (Guaita saved unsteadily but Bernardo Silva wasn’t good at controlling who got the rebound), in the 19th minute with Stones (shot from outside the box with few outs). ) and again with De Bruyne in the 26th minute (the Palace keeper kicked in a corner), while in the 27th minute Cancello’s lightning shot from outside the box shook the ball off the right bar.
For their part, the hosts had the best moment from Olise’s wrong shot going wide in the 13th minute and their main concern was closing the gaps around their frames and trying to damage the English champions in transition. In fact, the fact that City ended that period with 13 finals but no goals was definitely something that made Patrick Vieira’s players very happy.
In the second half the situation didn’t change much, the guests had the ball on their feet and the hosts tried to threaten the opponent, with Guardiola’s players creating 2-3 great chances but failing to put the ball in the net.
The first was in the 57th minute and was a brace where a cross from De Bruyne across the box sent the ball to the root of the left bar (19th this year for City) and as the period progressed Guaita made an amazing one Corner shot by Mahrez.
In the 70′ the citizens touched the goal again, but from the turn of Grillis from the right Bernardo Silva sent the ball wide with a shot from the height of the small space, for Laport came in the 90′ and ended the hopes of the champion for victory by failing to defeat Guaita with a header from an advantageous position.
