Chelsea’s game against Liverpool is of particular importance to English football as standing fans have been returning as pilots to English stadiums since 1994.

Chelsea hosted Liverpool at Stamford Bridge for the 21st Premier League game, but in that game fans remembered what it was like to watch a game standing, at least a game between the first two categories of English football.

This measure came back after 27 years since the last time there was standing fans in English stadiums in the 1994/95 season, and it is implemented as a pilot to see how things go.

Standing followers were banned as a precaution against hooliganism, but the British government steered its return.

According to a previous Times article, the Tottenham, Wolves, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Cardiff and Bristol are among those whose stadiums, by design, have the ability to host upright while the rest of the teams have to switch to this similar option.
