Chelsea 2-2 Liverpool: A satisfactory draw that City favors
Chelsea and Liverpool put on a spectacle for spectators at Stamford Bridge and the 2-2 final opened Manchester City’s “void” in the Premier League table. The hero of the “blues” is Edouard Medi, the most important one is Costas Tsimikas.
Liverpool led by two goals, Chelsea reacted at the end of 1. 2-2 at “Stamford Bridge” (where the audience stood for the first time since 1994) left both teams disappointed. With the end of the 21st game in the Premier League, Manchester City increased the distance to their two pursuers in the fight for the title.
Santio Mane and Mohamed Salah scored for the “Reds” (with Costa Tsimika Before leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations, Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic reacted.
Liverpool’s many absences (Jürgen Klopp, Allison, Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino dropped out due to the coronavirus) entered the field strong in every way. In just 15 seconds, Mane received a yellow card (the fastest 2006-2007 Opta recorded), but she was also the one who went looking for the goal with better chances. He found it in the 9th minute when Trevo Tsalomba made a tragic mistake, Mane took the ball, Edouard Medi dodged and scored to make it 1-0.
The reaction of the European champions (who left Romelos Loukakos out of the action because of his recent remarks) was negligible. Defensive gaps saved more goals. Salah was fourth twice with Medi, but was beaten both times by the Senegalese, even if there was one offside.
In the 26th minute, the Egyptian found another way to defeat the Chelsea goalkeeper and, after great exertion, scored 150 goals in English football (both wearing the Chelsea shirt) from a diagonal position in the closed corner.
The hosts were very frustrated and showed themselves in the duel between Tsimikas and Mason Mount, who was even checked for a red card by the English midfielder. Somewhere there, however, the dynamic began to change. The “Blues” attacked and found an incredible goal in the 42nd minute with a volley from Mateo Kovacic. In the next attack, Engolo Cante opened for Christian Pulisic, who scored in the fourth quarter, while Mount had the opportunity to fall completely immediately afterwards.
The break proved beneficial for Liverpool after the home side’s counterattack was stopped. Gaps in their defense once again played an important role in the game, with Mane and Salah trying to take advantage of them combined with their teammates’ high balls.
However, they found a great medi against them, who fended off everything in the first quarter of the second half and kept Chelsea in the game. When the time of pressure from the “Reds” ended, the changes began that didn’t really help either team.
Liverpool were the team that tried to find the goal in the end, mainly playing on the side of Tsimikas who tried to get the ball into Medi’s room but failed and the 2-2 remained until the end .
