According to the Wall Street Journal, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged US President Joe Biden not to impose sanctions on Roman Abramovich in order to help peace talks with Russia.

The British government and the EU imposed severe sanctions on Roman Abramovich for “hammering” Chelsea. A process that is, however, quite complex due to these imposed sanctions. This created an alalum in the blues.

Despite the penalties the Russian oligarch received, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reportedly took a different stance. In particular, an article in the Wall Street Journal states that he asked his president US, Joe Biden, not to impose sanctions on Roman Abramovich in their phone communications.

The reason is that the Russian oligarch can play an important role in peace talks with Russia. The White House has neither confirmed nor denied the report.

We remind you that Abramovich announced that the profits from the sale of Chelsea will go to the victims of the war in Ukraine.
