Tuhel: “I’m happy that Athpilicueta is staying, I’m optimistic for Riediger”
Thomas Tuchel said in the press conference ahead of the Brentford game that he was happy Athpilicueta is staying, while expressing optimism for Ridiger despite the difficulties ahead, having turned down any offers from Chelsea.
German Chelsea manager Tom Tuchel was asked about the Blues’ transfer cases in their defense and in particular the players who have joined (Christensen, Athpilicueta).
As for the Danish stopper, he confirmed the rumors that exist at the Catalans, as well as of course with the boss who will be extended until 2023. As for Riddiger, he stressed that there isn’t much the team can do but remains optimistic.
The German coach said of Athpilikueta: “Yes we were that close and it happened, that’s very good news for us. Chelsea now have a very good chance of Tuhel staying“.
For Christensen: “We heard the same rumors. I don’t have any confirmation for you because I haven’t talked to Andreas about it at this point. But we heard the same rumors“.
For Rüdiger’s future: “The situation is as it is. Our hands are tied. We can’t talk to him or propose to him. We can’t negotiate with his agent, so he listens to other proposals. But I’m still optimistic“.
