Julián Alvarez defeated Pope with an incredible 31st-minute shot to give Manchester City a hat-trick against Newcastle to keep the Citizens top of the table.

Manchester City have been the Premier League’s best team in recent years and proved it again on Saturday night (19/8) as Pep Guardiola’s side struggled against Newcastle three days after winning the European Super Cup but couldn’t find a way another important hit to score three points.

The protagonist was Julián Alvarez, who had played just minutes against Sevilla (being substituted in the 85th minute) and against whom Magpies wore the starting shirt, with the Argentine striker opening the visitors’ goal with an elusive diagonal shot in the 31st minute and signed the final 1-0 for the citizens.

It should be noted that the game offered very few clear chances as City scored the only last away goal in the first half and converted it into a goal and Newcastle were competitive but did not threaten Ederson and had to get through the 70th minute to do so to reach First final on target.
