Rui Costa on Vlachodimo: “He deserves the utmost respect, grateful for what he offered Benfica”
Benfica president Rui Costa gave a lengthy interview and, among other things, referred to the departure of Odysseus Vlachodimos from the Lusitanians.
Odysseas Vlachodimos has decided to continue his career in the Premier League and Nottingham Forest, leaving Benfica after five years in Lisbon.
Lusitanos president Rui Costa gave an interview in which he mentioned all the summer’s topics including the Greek goalkeeper whom he only had good words to say about.
In detail what Rui Costa said about Vlahodemos: “It’s a delicate situation, I’m not going to sweep under the rug what happened, it was public. He represented Benfica for five years, he deserves the utmost respect.
He wanted to leave after realizing he was losing space. Last year when there were two days left until the end of the market, he had an offer from Ajax that was very advantageous for him and we couldn’t even see it, the market was basically closed.
The arrival of Trubin prevented a potential departure from Odysseus, but when that (Nottingham) offer arrived we felt the best solution was to take it and let the player look for a different experience.
He leaves here the same way he came. We’ll always be grateful for what he achieved at Benfica, but that’s a player’s life. We have concluded that his cycle is over and wish him well“.
