Haaland: “The 4-0 win against Real is probably the best game in City’s history”
In an interview with “Equipe”, Erling Haaland confirmed his decision to move to Manchester City in the summer of 2022, with the Norwegian striker even particularly emphasizing the triumph over Real.
The 2022-23 season will forever be remembered by Erling Haaland as he was extremely successful on both a personal and team level. He scored 52 goals in 53 appearances for City (36 in 35 league games) as the Manchester club celebrated the treble, becoming only the second team in the country (after fellow countrymen United in the 1998-99 season) to do so.
All of this made the Norwegian striker particularly happy and he wanted to express his joy in an interview with “Equipe”, whereby the 23-year-old acknowledged many people’s doubts as to whether he could “stay” in the citizen system.
“A lot was said during my time at City, everyone said that Guardiola’s formation wouldn’t work because he played without a back nine as a reference point in attack.”
We proved the opposite and I’m happy. I don’t read newspapers much, but I don’t live in a cave, I’ve heard these comments. I can’t influence the world’s thinking, I can only accept it.
In the end I think we showed the world that I can function at City and that the team can play fantastic football with me too.”stressed Haaland, making particular mention of last year’s Champions League semi-final against Real, in which the citizens defeated the European champions 4-0 at the Etihad.
“This win was probably the best game in Manchester City’s history. That day I had the chance to score two or three goals, but Courtois played one of the games of his life. You know how it is, it’s not just the goals matter.”.
