Beckham’s message of support to Maguire: ‘Keep your head up, I know what it’s like to be targeted’
Harry Maguire was once again in the eye of the storm after scoring an own goal in England’s friendly against Scotland and David Beckham sent him a message of support.
It’s not the first time Harry Maguire has been in the spotlight as he is one of the “most popular” players to be criticized, be it playing for Manchester United or wearing the England jersey.
The last opportunity for him to receive cheers and boos from all over the world was the own goal in the Three Lions’ friendly win against Scotland.
Former England captain David Beckham was quick to express his support for Maguire, sending him a supportive text message, according to a report in the Sun.
“Cheer up, I know what it’s like to be targeted.”wrote, among others, Beckham, who received the famous red card at the 1998 World Cup and the world blamed him for Argentina’s elimination in the quarter-finals.
We remind you that Gareth Southgate also put up a shield for the criticism that Harry Maguire received from time to time and expressed his irritation.
