Everton 0-1 Arsenal: Goodison escaped with Trossard’s goal
After Leandro Trossard put the ball into the net with a fantastic 69th-minute penalty, Arsenal stormed out of Goodison Park with a 1-0 win over Everton and climbed to second place in the Premier League table.
Goodison Park has been a particularly inhospitable home for Arsenal in recent years and this was reflected in the fact that their last success there came in October 2017 when Arsene Wenger was on the bench.
Last season they were beaten 1-0 on Sean Dice’s debut as manager, but this year Mikel Arteta’s Liverpool ran away with a 1-0 win thanks to Trossard’s 69th-minute golden goal on matchday five of the Premier League.
The game didn’t have many big phases, as Everton played an overly defensive game to protect their home pitch and Arsenal were stuck in the first half, but were also affected by Martinelli’s injury and forced withdrawal from the pitch in the 24th minute.
But the Londoners turned up the heat in the second half and were redeemed in the 69th minute when Arteta’s players moved the ball back and forth and Saka delivered it into the heart of the opposition’s defense, allowing Trossard to create wonderful space on the pitch Move and send the ball into the net.
Everton then had no chance to respond and Arsenal were unable to score a second goal despite having chances to do so. With the 1-0 win in the final, the Londoners were still happy to move up to 2nd place and advance to the next round.
