De Bruyne: ‘We played great, we should have scored more goals with Liverpool’
Kevin De Bruyne argued that City were better than Liverpool and should have won on the basis of their odds, while stressing that the tie did not favor either team in the title race.
Manchester City led twice in Etihad’s big derby, had a goal from Sterling that didn’t count after a few centimeters of VAR and Mahrez’s great chance in 94′, nevertheless in the final it remained at 2-2 with Liverpool and didn’t make it to “slay” his opponent in the fight for the title.
The Citizens stayed at +1 from the Reds with seven games to go in the final, with Kevin De Bruyne believing that the two sides’ chances of winning the title hadn’t changed after that game and stressing that the English champions were the opportunity based on their chances of getting the three points.
“It was a tough game. To be fair, I think we played great. It was a very good way of playing and we should have scored more goals.”
That’s how things are. “We should have scored more goals in the first half but we were still ahead.” First, the Belgium midfielder, who led his team in the Battle of Etihad, added:
“The way we started the second half was disappointing. I think we played great and created a lot of opportunities to get the win.
The phase in the 94th minute was very long. Riyadh (Mahrez) opted to dig the ball and if he got in it would be a miracle goal. We played very well, I think we had the upper hand against Liverpool.
This is how we have to play the rest of the season.”
