Postecoglou on the disallowed goal: “It was a mistake to respect the position of the referees”

Angelos Postecoglou has described Liverpool’s disallowed goal in the head-to-head clash as a “serious mistake” but stressed there will never be a foolproof technology system.

Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 win over Liverpool was marred by a refereeing error and especially from Luis Dias’ disallowed goal, which did not count because the VAR didn’t understand that the referee called it off.

At the press conference before the Blues’ game against Luton (7/10), when asked about the incident, which caused an uproar and strong reaction in England, Angelos Postecoglou argued that the referees should be respected and that it was a mistake.

“If we want the coaches to be the referees. We have a lot of responsibility in the teams, but we are not the referees.” Due to a lack of communication, it was a terrible mistake, but not easy to explain. If it were easy to explain, I would have assumed there would have been more excitement than there actually was.

It’s a bit strange because you usually feel it during the game when something happens. I didn’t understand anything and I don’t think anyone felt like anything important had happened.

Whatever I say is likely to be misunderstood because we are the ones who benefited from it. It was a miscommunication. This has never happened before, but we are in a new environment with technology. We want a bug-free system, which will never exist unless we want the game to last four hours and every decision explained.

It’s a big mistake, but it’s a man who made the mistake. I don’t think we should pull anything. We must ensure that what happened does not happen again.

Don’t ask the coaches and players about the rules of the game, we don’t know half of them. The referees know it. We shouldn’t comment because if a referee commented on the tactics of a game, everyone would be in an uproar.

“We have to respect their position. Mistakes are part of our game, it can’t be error-free.”
