Gary Neville’s touching farewell to Sir Bobby Charlton and Manchester United’s tribute

Gary Neville has sent a special farewell to Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton as the England team prepare to pay their respects in their Champions League match against Copenhagen this evening (October 24).

The Manchester United family has been poorer since Saturday afternoon (October 21st). Sir Bobby Charltonthe last survivor of the tragic Munich plane crash in 1958 and – in the opinion of many – the greatest footballer to ever emerge from English football.


THE Manchester United is expected to play the first game at “Old Trafford” after the defeat of the team legend on Tuesday evening (October 24th, 10:00 p.m., COSMOTE SPORT 3 HD, live from Sportish), against Copenhagen on matchday 3 of the Champions League, while everyone prepare for the final farewell to Sir Bobby Charlton at the club.

As a minimal tribute, Manchester United have decided to replace the English veteran in the stands with an ornate wreath, while all club members and players will wear black armbands.

In addition, with UEFA’s approval, a minute’s silence will be observed before the start of the game and the cover of the match program will be decorated with the figure of the English football legend.


The grief and sadness that gripped the entire club also left its mark on former players of the team who lived close to Sir Bobby Charlton, such as: Gary Nevillewith the former Manchester United right-back leaving a touching farewell message on the deceased’s coffin: “The greatest English footballer and the greatest ambassador of English football. The epitome of what a Manchester United player should possess: honesty, courage, hard work, loyalty and talent! The Busby Babies are my heroes and I hope they are hugging each other right now. A thank you is not enough for everything you have done for our club“.
