The Carabao Cup’s biggest change from the new season
Changes are coming to the Carabao Cup as from the new competition year English clubs in the top four categories will be invited to play a single semi-final rather than a double as was the case until this year.
The danger of player fatigue due to the overloaded competition schedule in national and international competitions has been expressed from time to time by dedicated members, coaches and footballers of the game EFLthe organizer of the English League Cup, has decided to change the format of the competition in order to reduce the number of games.
Since the establishment of the institution in the 1960/1961 season, qualification for the final has been decided in double matches, which – it seems – will change from next season (2024/2025), with the semi-final being a single match.
This decision was taken by the EFL in consultation with the Sky Sportsthe television provider is close to a deal to take over the rights to broadcast the event. All 20 EFL clubs have been informed of the EFL’s relevant plans Premier Leaguewhereby the proposal was accepted and the burden of their athletes was shared.
