Manchester City captain Kevin De Bruyne gave an interview about his serious injury, his life during recovery and his future with the Belgian national team as part of the international tour of the treble that the Citizens won last year.

Under the title “Triple Trophy Tour”, the management of Manchester City has decided to exhibit the trophies won by the English club last season (2022/2023) as part of an international tour, with the aim of bringing its fans from all over the world closer together with the Team.

The tour in question began in early October in Abu Dhabi, the country of the club owners, while last weekend (October 28-29) they were in Bryn, Norway, the home village of Erling Haaland, and also made a stop in the capital of the Scandinavian country Oslo.

On Wednesday afternoon (November 1st) it was Ghent that welcomed the “citizens”, his hometown Kevin De Bruyne. More than 700 fans were photographed at the De Bijloke Music Center with the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League trophies, in the presence of the captain himself Manchester City.

During his presence at the organized event, the Belgian answered questions from former “Citizens” goalkeeper and current presenter of the Belgian channel “Play Sports”, Gert de Vlieger.

He began by talking about the pride he feels in the place where he grew up and returning as a treble winner. At the same time, he spoke about the success of winning the Premier League and said that it was actually very difficult to beat Arsenal in the title race.

He was then asked about his injury in the Champions League final and emphasized: “We have experienced really difficult and painful moments, like losing the final against Chelsea in 2021. Of course it’s a shame that I got injured twice, but the encounter with Riedinger, those are things that happen. Last season I struggled with my hamstring for two months, but it wasn’t until a week before the Champions League final that I started to feel better. And that’s when my body decided enough was enough“.

On the severity of his injury and the turnaround in August, when he left the first game of the 2023/2024 season after just 26 minutes with a torn hamstring, he said:I’ve never experienced this before, I’ve never had such a serious injury. Surgery on the thigh muscle is not common. After the Burnley game we did scans, sent them to different surgeons and they all said I needed surgery straight away“.

With the schedule for his return to action not yet known, the Belgian midfielder is enjoying things that he could not do due to a footballer’s busy schedule, while he will be present at the upcoming Euro 2024 in the stadiums of Germany in the jersey of the Belgian national team and winning the trophy he said: “That would be great, but it’s not that simple. I’m very excited to see what happens next. I think it’s a shame that I’ve missed all the international games since March because it was a really good start to a new era. I saw a few games but couldn’t really see the team’s development“.
