Nottingham 2-0 Aston Villa: First win in two months, Vlachodimos’ debut
Odysseus Vlachodimos’ debut in the Nottingham shirt was a resounding success as the Reds beat Aston Villa 2-0 at the City Ground to move well clear of the bottom three.
Nottingham enjoyed a great 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on September 2, but since then they have not been able to enjoy the joy of three points in six consecutive Premier League games, with four draws in the last two months and two defeats.
However, since Sunday afternoon (May 11th), this negative series has been a thing of the past, as Steve Cooper’s team showed a courageous performance against this year’s excellent Aston Villa (5th in the overall standings) and won 2-0 at the “City Ground”. , in a match where Odysseas Vlachodimos made his Rangers debut.
It is worth noting that this was Forest’s third overall win in the league, while Aston Villa suffered their first defeat in the Premier League since September 3, having won five and drawn one in their last six games.
The match
Nottingham couldn’t have started the game better as the hosts got into the net just before half-time and Eina’s powerful shot from the top of the penalty area sent the ball deep into the right-hand corner of Emiliano Martinez’s net.
However, as both teams headed to the dressing room at half-time, Aston Villa struggled to respond with their two best moments. Vlachodimos had beaten Zaniolo just as often, and at the end of the first half the two teams were tied for a total of seven finals (3-4), with the only scorer giving the Reds the lead.
In the second half, Cooper’s team prevailed again and scored their second goal in the 47th minute. Mangala’s powerful shot was not cleared properly by Martins and Aston Villa took control through possession (80%) but were unable to create much of a chance.
Emery’s players had nine final tries in that period and two at home that failed against the very stable Vlahodemos, with Nottingham playing with determination and intelligence to celebrate a huge three points in the final in the fight to stay in the big league.
Impressively, Nottingham have only suffered 2 defeats (9 wins – 9 draws) in their last 20 Premier League home games from October 2022, the only teams with fewer home defeats in the same period are Manchester City and Liverpool.
