Klopp: ‘If we don’t win the Champions League, we won’t get the respect we deserve’

Jurgen Klopp spoke of a great season and stressed that even if Liverpool didn’t manage to win another title this year, it was a terrible step but if they did, they wouldn’t get the respect they deserved.

The hunt for the Premier League is in full swing, Liverpool will host Everton on Easter Sunday (April 24) at Anfield and want to reduce the gap to Manchester City to one point again.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have a chance to clinch three more titles and celebrate a historic quadruple at the end of the season.

However, the Germany manager stressed that he knows they had a great season even if the Reds fail to win another title.

However, he noted that if they don’t celebrate the championship or the Champions League, they won’t get the respect they deserve.

“If we don’t win we probably won’t get the respect we deserve because people are obsessed with first place. It’s funny. In life it makes sense to learn to accept your own strengths and weaknesses. It’s OK. When I look back on my career, I wouldn’t think, “Oh, we were only second.” I am not that person.

I really like the trip and if you make it you will have more good days than bad. If you don’t appreciate them, you will make your life less enjoyable.

We don’t think about the four trophies. For example, we are no longer making plans for the Champions League final. We think about Everton and then we don’t have much time to think about Villarreal. That’s why we don’t take the second step before the first.

I trust this team more than I can say. But it was never easy. “The only way I know is step by step and game by game.”

One step away from finalizing an agreement with River Plate is Manchester City, where they are finalizing a deal to acquire 17-year-old Argentina’s next big thing, Claudio Etcheverry, for over €20 million.
