Pilots to support communication between referees and VAR in the Premier League
The Pilots’ communications technology will be used by senior Premier League officials to simplify and direct dialogue between referees on the pitch and those in VAR.
The Premier League is considering ways to minimize the observed communication problems between referees and VAR. One proposal that has been “on the table” and is currently being considered is support for airline pilots.
The aim was to improve the accuracy of the language following the outcry over chaotic communication between VAR, its assistant and the first official on the pitch at Tottenham v Liverpool, which led to Jurgen Klopp’s side having a clear goal disallowed Premier League spoke to two pilots.
