Nottingham 2-3 Brighton: Beat the City Ground before clashing with AEK in Greece
Brighton fell behind in the 3rd minute, but managed a comeback in the “City Ground”, defeated Nottingham 3-2 and built the best possible atmosphere before the game against AEK in the “OPAP Arena” for the Europa League.
Too hard to die… Brighton were forced to chase the goal from the 3rd minute and lost three players to injury (Fati, Lambtey, Lallana) by the start of the second half, but they couldn’t just respond against Nottingham, the were burning for points, but managed a remarkable turnaround: with a 3-2 win in the final, they secured their first treble in seven Premier League games and handed the Reds their first league home defeat since April.
The game started in the best possible conditions for the home team after Gibbs-White sent a well-weighted cross from the right as early as the 3rd minute and Elanga found the net and fired an unmarked header at the far post.
However, this circumstance did not deter AEK’s next opponents in the Europa League groups. Ferguson beat Vlachodimos in the 26th minute with excellent placement in the penalty area, while Pedro perfectly received Gross’ cross from the right in the 45+4 minute (his second assist of the game) and beat the international goalkeeper with a great header.
The same player extended the Seagulls’ lead in the 58th minute and increased it to 3-1 with the white ball, but as the game entered the final phase it took on the character of a thriller. Dunk was sent off with a second yellow card in the 73rd minute and Gibbs-White made it 2-3 in the 76th minute, only to see crushing pressure coming from Cooper’s men, but De Gerby was able to escape thanks to a fantastic one Hold on and keep the three points Fehrbrücken’s save after Yates’ header in the tenth minute of extra time.
