Guardiola: “I’m proud that we’ve been playing the same way for eight years”

Pep Guardiola stressed that his players were upset about the 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool but he was happy with the way they fought and described Jurgen Klopp’s side as great.

Manchester City have only won at home in all competitions in 2023, but against Liverpool their impressive run was cut short after 23 games when Trent Alexander-Arnold beat Anderson in the 80th minute of the Etihad derby on Erling Haaland’s 1st goal :1-Draw responded -1.

A result that kept the champions’ lead over the Reds at +1 but left a bitter taste in the mouth. While Pep Guardiola revealed that there was unrest in the dressing room, he also stated that he was completely satisfied with the Manchester Blues’ performance both defensively and offensively.

When asked for a more specific comment on Klopp’s team, Guardiola replied: “Sometimes I watch Liverpool because I enjoy watching them” He made this clear during the verbal episode with Darwin Núñez at the end of the game, in which Klopp intervened to separate the two “Nothing happened between us.”
