PGMOL recruited 12 former footballers to become referees through fast-track training
To increase confidence in referees, PGMOL has staffed the panel with 12 players who have recently retired and will be groomed to referee matches through rapid training.
The image of referees in the Premier League has suffered greatly recently as errors are constantly being observed, with VAR not even taking corrective action in many cases.
With the aim of calming the mood and the increasingly loud voices about the appropriateness of the referees, the PGMOL (Official Referees Panel in England) went ahead with this Registration of 12 recently retired football playersto whistle games through a crash course.
The refereeing program in question aims to include referees who have greater empathy for the game, as critics of referees accuse them of making decisions based on the letter of the law rather than their perception of the game’s progress and conditions that they will create.
Given that 10,000 referees have left football in the last five years and the number of games is increasing exponentially, this is a step PGMOL It seems to be going in the right direction and may be a future solution for players and coaches to have more trust in match officials.
