Cryptocurrency aims to break football sponsorship with Liverpool
Liverpool will very likely be the first team to have a cryptocurrency company as a main sponsor. Athletic have disclosed negotiations with the “Reds” if the partnership with Standard Chartered is not renewed.
Liverpool are in talks with a cryptocurrency company so the two sides can secure a sponsorship deal, according to Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
The negotiations concern the red jersey, i.e. their shop window.
The Merseyside club’s contract with English multinational financial services company Standard Chartered expires in the summer of 2023 and is unlikely to be renewed.
If Liverpool find a point of contact with the company in question and proceed with the agreement, it will be the first team to advertise cryptocurrency on its jersey.
The financial claims of the Merseyside team are estimated at €83m (£70m) over a two-year period. According to Ornstein, the outcome of the negotiations should be announced within the next two months.
