Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United: Gordon got them on their way to the Champions League
Newcastle needed just one goal to break Manchester United’s resistance and push them back in the race for the Premier League’s top four.
Newcastle equalized against Manchester United but didn’t score many goals and were stressed until the end. The 1:0 The 14th matchday of the Premier League gave a boost to the Magpies, who moved closer to the top four of the Champions League and left behind an opponent with the same goal.
Eddie Howe’s men have put their midweek defeat against Paris Saint-Germain and their state behind them. The hosts were superior, constantly created chances and could have scored from the first half if they had been more precise. With Luke Shaw as a stopper alongside Harry Maguire, United were unable to stop the attacking efforts of Newcastle, who took their last two home games to a first-half total of 14.
In the second half, the name Anthony Gordon made amends, who scored the first goal for the home team in the 55th minute and in the “St. James Park” caused ecstasy. Erik ten Hach’s answer was to introduce Anthony and Rasmus Hoylund, but none of them could help more than Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
In the final minutes the game moved into Nick Pope’s jurisdiction (until he was seriously injured and substituted), but the visitors never had a final shot on goal, except for one instance where the ball ended up in the net but the goal did Maguire was offside after remaining in the attack.
