Klopp: “We were lucky, we played very badly for 76 minutes”
Liverpool had luck on their side against Crystal Palace, as Jurgen Klopp claimed, admitting his side didn’t play good football for 76 minutes.
Liverpool caused a surprise at Selhast Park Crystal PalaceBecause despite a 0-1 defeat, they ultimately achieved a 2-1 victory and climbed to the top of the table after the 16th matchday of the Premier League.
Jürgen Klopp said in the post-match press conference that his team was lucky as they didn’t play well for 76 minutes.
“At the moment I am a very happy coach, but I know that we were also lucky. If you only win your really good games, you have no chance of being truly successful. That’s the case and of course today’s game wasn’t particularly good.
It was a very poor performance for 76 minutes. We had changes of pace. We had no acceleration whatsoever. We had no timing. I don’t know how many times we were offside, it was terrible, so it’s always a sign that we’re a bit too passive and things like that, if one passes the ball and the other is already offside, it doesn’t make any sense .
I think at the beginning Crystal Palace didn’t have a lot of confidence, it kind of looked like that. They were good, but we also made it easy for them with bad passes and losing the ball at the wrong time.
All of this is helpful and that’s why I said that we were definitely lucky too. But what we did from 76′ to 105′ was very good because we all know that against 10 players you can have a lot more problems than we have today.
We really turned the game around, the players who came off the bench were very influential and had a big impact. That’s really been the case so far this season. The players we have brought off the bench are making a real impact.” said the German technician.
