Klopp closer to an extension with Liverpool until 2026
According to several English media outlets, Liverpool are in talks to keep Klopp for another four years, i.e. until 2026, and the German is close to an extension.
Jürgen Klopp has been with Liverpool since October 2015. The German manager’s current contract with the Reds expires in 2024, so there are two seasons left in this agreement.
The Reds want to keep Klopp longer at Anfield. Specifically, as reported by the English media, Liverpool has started talks with the German’s agent and is intensifying efforts to keep him until the summer of 2026.
Fenway Sports Group President Michael Gordon was at Anfield for the Reds’ 2-0 win over Villarreal. He sat down with Klopp’s agent Mark Kozik amid optimism in the Red camp that he is now ready to discuss the possibility of an extension.
Klopp is paid around €47m a season and according to the Telegraph, the current deal terms are set to be improved. However, the financial part is not the focus of the negotiations. The Germany coach wants to make sure he has the same energy and motivation to keep going.
Klopp has won the Champions League, Premier League, Super Cup, Club World Cup and this year the League Cup during his Liverpool years. In 371 games he has 232 wins, 77 draws and 62 losses.
