Tottenham 4-1 Newcastle: Richarlison and Son lead to victory and 5th place
With a brace from Richarlison and a goal and two assists from Son, Tottenham beat Newcastle 4-1 in London to cement themselves in fifth place in the table. This ended a five-game losing streak in the league.
The battle in north London against the backdrop of the Premier League’s privileged top four had one big winner and that was Tottenham Hotspur. Angelos Postecoglou’s team beat Eddie Howe’s Newcastle on matchday 16 on Sunday evening (October 12th) and won with a clean and fair 4-1.
Richarlison with two goals (for the first time in a league game since April 2022) and Son with 1 goal and 2 assists led the way to Spurs’ first success after a black record of five games without a win (1 draw – 4 defeats). Times), with the Magpies suffering their second heavy defeat in a row following Everton’s 3-0 defeat at Liverpool in midweek, leaving them in 7th place.
The match
The clash in north London hit two teams with deep wounds in their bodies: Tottenham lost four of their last five league games and Newcastle suffered a home defeat to Everton.
Since a win was absolutely necessary in the fight for a place in the top 4, both went onto the pitch in an aggressive mood and the first quarter had good phases for both. Then there were no clear chances, it came to the 26th minute when the stands of the “Tottenham Hotspur Stadium” burst into flames.
Udoji fed Sean nicely on the left and then dove into the Newcastle penalty area, where Sean turned from the left and Udoji fired past Dubravka from close range (1-0), giving his side their tenth consecutive Premier League win took the lead.
In the 34th minute, Almiron tried to respond but failed to beat Vicario with a well-positioned penalty (in the Magpies’ only first-half final) before Tottenham scored their second goal four minutes later in what looked like one Click. faster than her opponent in terms of her options in the final third of the field.
Son was also the protagonist in this phase in the role of creator, with the South Korean entering the penalty area from the left and releasing Trippier with a dribble to complete the turnaround at the height of the small penalty area and make it 2-0 with Richarlison his second goal of the year and sixth overall for Tottenham.
In the final of the first part, Tottenham dominated (12:4 finals, 5:1 at home, 1.71:1.03 x goals, 65% -35% ball possession). to get up and down the Magpies’ defense and not wait long for a third goal to be scored.
This came on the hour mark when Richarlison took advantage of Dubravka’s misjudgment at Poro’s set piece and beat him with a penalty to score the second, before a flurry of chances from the home side over the next few minutes with a header from Johnson stopped on the crossbar.
But the Londoners’ party didn’t stop there as dessert was served in the final quarter, with Sean winning a penalty after being tipped over by Dubravka and completing the finish himself to make it 4-0 in awe.
He experienced a similar surprise at the moment of his substitution in the 91st minute, when Newcastle, in turn, simply scored the consolation goal in the 90th + 2 minute, beating Zoelinton Vicario with a shot and making the final score 4-1.
