Leeds 0-4 Manchester City: Back on top for the champions
Manchester City were classes ahead of Leeds and had no trouble clinching an impressive 4-0 at Eland Road that put them back at the top with +1 from Liverpool and four games to go.
Liverpool threw the gauntlet to her with their winning pass from St James Park (1-0 v Newcastle) and Manchester City picked it up and returned it to their great opponent in the title fight with even greater strength and style.
In a ‘clever’ match that came just 24 hours after beating Real 4-3 in the first semi-final of the Champions League and in the face of a heated rematch in Madrid, the English champions had no desire to play fire with short procedures swept Leeds to an impressive 4-0 win at Eland Road for their 35th Premier League game.
Rodri in the first half and Ake, Jesσs and Fernandinho in the second signed the comfortable win for Pep Guardiola’s side, who went unbeaten for 16 consecutive away games (13 wins – 3 draws in that period) and a record in their history set up .
The game
Manchester City seized the initiative from the opening minutes, looking for a quick goal that would put them back in the lead a few hours after Liverpool’s escape from Newcastle to find them happy in their first major opportunity.
This happened in the 13th minute when Fontaine committed amazing fouls from the left and Rodri won a header in the heart of the Leeds defense to send it into the left corner of Messier’s goal and scored with his 5th goal of the year 0: 1 the citizens.
The game then lost its rhythm due to injury layoffs, Leeds ramping up aggressively and threatening Firpo in the 34th minute, whose powerful shot went over the horizontal bar of Anderson’s goal in the penalty area.
For their part, City tried to find the second goal before the end of the first half, but in the 38th minute Messlie firmly blocked Jesούςs’ shot and in the 43rd minute Struk stopped Sterling with an impressive tackle trying to break away from an advantageous position to secure a place. .
The second half began like the first, with the English champions persistently looking for the goal and not sending the ball too late into the net. Sterling and Grillis failed to beat Messier with a shot into the box in the 52nd minute, but two minutes later two defenders kept them ‘talking’.
After Foden’s execution from the right, Dias jumped impressively and clinched the header, with Ake drilling close to Leeds small-sided and moving a place to make it 2-0.
The goal gave the English champions an opportunity to slow down and control their strength, while Leeds came forward on the other side and tried to become dangerous but failed, with Ruben Dias and Laport cutting everything whenever needed , which simplified Anderson’s work.
After 75 minutes City had 12 finals (3 at home) against just 3 against Leeds (none at home), with the Citizens’ superiority sealed in the 78th minute when Fontaine scored an excellent vertical ball and beat Jesούςs with great space Messie with 0-3.
Despite the three goals against Leeds, Leeds took the lead and had two great chances with James and Gelhard to score the consolation goal, but City’s defense denied it and in the final the fourth goal came as the icing on the cake Fernandinho fired Messier from outside the penalty area to make it 0:4 in the third and last minute of the delay.
