Premier League
Evening jump for Everton, step four for Tottenham
Everton beat Chelsea 1-0 at Goodison Park and took a deep breath in the previous night’s battle, while Tottenham easily defeated Leicester 3-1 and remain firmly in check for a Champions League spot.
Everton stayed alive in the fight for survival on Sunday afternoon (05/01) with Frank Lampard’s side clinching a superb 1-0 win over Chelsea in their 35th Premier League game to climb to 32 points, two fewer than Leeds and Burnley, who hunt, but also less fit compared to them.
The first part offered minimal emotions at Goodison Park with the remarkable phases measured in the fingers of one hand, but everything changed in the second, after 47 minutes the hosts opened the score.
The goal came from a childish error by the London defence, and Athpilicueta in particular, who was too late to remove the ball, giving Gray the right to jab it and steal it to get in the way of Richardson, who was calm took the right place beating Medi (1:0).
The continuation was shocking, with Chelsea pushing twice in the same minute and equalizing (59′), but Jordan Pickford proved to be the pastry home’s guardian angel, parrying Atpilicueta’s shot (previously Mouton’s shot) first to the right and then to the ball left crossbar) and then Riediger shot from close range.
Just before the end of the 90th minute, Everton had opportunities to ‘end’ the match with Gray and Gordon, but the former missed and the latter lost to Medi, with Pickford in turn parrying Kovacic’s powerful shot and putting his signature wide for Everton’s win, which could prove crucial to avoid relegation.
EVERTON: Pickford, Iguobi, Coleman, Mina, Holgate, Mikolenko, Gordon, Ducoure, Delph (71′ Alan), Gray (90′ Ali), Richardson (80′ Rodon)
CHELSEA: Medi, Athpilicueta (68′ Pulisik), Thiago Silva, Riediger, James, Loftus-Chick, Zorginio (46′ Kovacic), Alonso, Mount, Werner (68′ Zigzag), Haverts
The usual suspects for Tottenham have been clarified
In north London, after two consecutive negative results (0-1 home defeat to Brighton, White draw at Brentford), Tottenham sought a three-pointer and found it with characteristic consolation against Leicester, unsuccessful frame games in the Premier League (2 draws – 2 defeats).
The Spurs’ main role was played by their two forwards, Harry Kane and Sean, with the former opening the scoring with a 22nd-minute header (from a Sean corner) and scoring 17 goals in 14 Premier League games against the Foxes and as Second shot The staff scored Conte’s team’s other two goals, capitalizing on Kulusewski’s assists in 60′ and 79′.
The only thing Leicester managed to do was score the consolation goal with Iheanacho at 90+1′, with Tottenham ending up earning a valuable win in the battle to capture 4th place leading to the Champions League.
TOTENAM: Loris, Romero, Dyer, Davis, Emerson, Bentancourt (82′ Winks), Hoiberg, Sessions’ Moura (55′ Kulusewski), Kane, Sean (82′ Berhwein)
LESTER: Schmeichel, Castanier, Amartey, Soyundsu, Thomas, Sumare (67′ Bradt), Medi, Albrighton, Iheanacho, Pereth (76′ Tillemans), Dhaka (67′ Vardy)
