Chris Wood will replace Kieran Tripier in January on the Newcastle transfer push, with the Buzzards activating a € 30m clause to sign him from Burnley.

Newcastle’s transfer counterattack with the aim of securing a place in the Premier League this season continues. Kieran Tripier was the first strike of the new powerful Saudi owners, but it won’t be the only one as Chris Wood counted down to take the baton.

According to Tuesday night’s Daily Mail, the Buzzards are taking advantage of a clause in the New Zealand striker’s contract with Burley and activating it to make him their own for € 30m, which the Clarets have hated since they lose an important player and even from a team that, like them, is fighting for survival.

Wood’s takeover was deemed necessary by Newcastle residents following Calum Wilson’s serious injury that will knock him out for at least two months, with the 30-year-old great striker having many chances to make his debut his new team against Watford, next Saturday at St. James Park.

It should be noted that the veteran striker was under contract with Burnley through the summer of 2023 while counting 53 goals in 165 appearances in his 4.5 year stint at Turf Moore (acquired by Leeds for € 20m in 2017).

He’s only scored three times this year, while the culmination of the deal is that Newcastle’s only win this year is against Burnley and the two teams will face each other in the final game next May. In a match in which it cannot be ruled out that both want a point or points in order to stay in the big category!
