Tuhel: “The appearance of our attackers was the big problem against City”
Despite the defeat against Manchester City, Thomas Tuchel was satisfied with Chelsea’s defensive behavior, but not with his strikers and even referred to Romelu Lukaku.
Chelsea were very competitive for their 22nd game of the Premier League against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon at Etihad and didn’t let the league champions take many stages, but a moment of inspiration from Kevin De Bruyne in the 70th minute sent the scales higher that got them up +13 against the Londoners.
Shortly after the final of the game, which effectively knocked out the European champions for the title, Thomas Tuchel did not hide his grief and his complaints from the Blue Line players.
“The result is disappointing but it can happen when you play City. I think we deserved the draw, we defended very well.”
We didn’t allow any great chances and didn’t put ourselves under intense pressure. It was a good performance while I’m happy with the performance of my players.
A draw would be a fair result, but we don’t have it. “We’ve won games like this against Manchester City, now we have a different feeling.” The Germany coach first stated before mentioning the complaints he had from his team in attack:
“We had eight or nine passes from defense to attack, but no contact in the opponent’s area. That was the big problem with City, the performance of our attackers. We didn’t have the right positions and the right timing.
We lost a lot of balls quickly. Sometimes Romelou Loukakou has to pass, lost balls in many promising phases, but also had the huge chance of the match.
Of course we want to feed him, but he is part of the team. Of course we can do better. “We will never give up, but if City keep winning, nobody can catch them.”
