Liverpool returned to wins, Leeds froze London
Liverpool comfortably prevailed 3-0 at Anfield with Brentford to climb to second place, -11 and with fewer games against champions Manchester City. Great Leeds win in London 3-2 over West Ham.
After a three-game losing streak (draws against Tottenham and Chelsea, loss against Leicester), Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Premier League and did so in comfort and style, beating Brentford 3-0 at Anfield.
Fambino, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Minamino were the scorers for Jurgen Klopp’s side in a game that saw Costas Tsimikas red-benched.
In Sunday’s other match of game 22, Leeds enjoyed a magnificent away win over West Ham in London, with Marcelo Bielsa’s players prevailing 3-2 and Harrison scoring a hat-trick.
The game at Anfield
Liverpool had full initiative on the moves in the first part against Brentford, who failed to keep the ball and focused on defence, with the Reds’ first big phase coming in the 22nd minute. When Alexander-Arnold took the corner from the right and Van Dyke fired from high in the small area, Fernandez blocked saves with his foot.
After half an hour the guests started to get discouraged and frantic but had a problem with how they defended in the set phases and paid for it just before the break. Alexander-Arnold sent the ball to the back post with a corner kick and there promoted Fambino scored the 1-0 with a header through the small penalty area.
Thomas Frank’s side had a very good moment to equalise, but it was missed in the 59th minute by Ebeumo, who missed the target with a shot from an advantageous position, followed by an aggressive monologue from Klopp’s side in the last half an hour.
Zota had a shot on the right bar in the 62nd minute and in the 66th minute he was beaten by Fernandez in the fourth quarter but the 2-0 was not long in coming as Robertson crossed from the left and executed Oxlade-Chamberlain was with fish head on the second beam.
Eight minutes later, the three-pointer case was finally over, with the hosts’ easiest goal of the evening. Firmino squeezed Brentford’s defense to get the ball back from the opposing keeper and stole to pass on to Minamino, who came on slightly earlier, and gave the Japanese a cool run to make it 3-0 in the end.
The icing on the cake could even be added just before the end of the 90th minute when young Gordon made his debut in a Premier League match in the Reds’ final big period of the game, stopping Fernandez on the body.

Surprise in the capital with Harrison’s signature
At the same time, there was a big upset at London’s Olympic Stadium when bottom-placed Leeds threw West Ham 3-2 to the canvas, causing them great damage in an attempt to advance to the Champions League by occupying 4th place.
The game’s big protagonist was undoubtedly Jack Harrison, who scored all three of his team’s goals (giving them a lead each time), with the 25-year-old England winger becoming the first Leeds player to score three goals in a league game against West Ham after Russell Waincut in April 1927.
