Tuhel: “Don’t keep asking me about Loukakou, football is a team sport”
Romelu Lukaku came under fire after his sluggish performance against Manchester City and Thomas Tuchel rushed to defend him ahead of the Blues’ league game.
Romelu Lukaku has been signed as the player who will solve Chelsea’s attacking problem last summer, something Werner and Haverts failed to do last year, but the Belgian is a far cry from what the Londoners expected when they earned over £110million thanks to him spent euros.
The just 8 goals in 22 appearances with the Blues in all competitions is a significant fact, as Thomas Tuchel has put the publication of complaints from Lukakos behind him and put up a firewall in front of his player with a view to the championship game on Tuesday (18 /1 , 22:00, COSMOTE SPORT 1 HD and LIVE by Sportish) opposite Brighton.
“We’re doing everything we can to help Romelu. I think it’s completely wrong that you keep asking me about him because it means we’re focusing on a single player.
“He’s a key player and we want him to be like that, but for me it’s the wrong approach.” The German first told a reporter in Monday’s press conference, adding meaningfully:
“It’s a team sport and we don’t have ten players serving one. It’s not Chelsea, it’s not football.”
Each player is individually at the service of the team. That is the supreme principle and it will never change.”
