In Steven Gerrard’s great career, there is only one unfortunate circumstance: In his 17 years at Liverpool, he has never won a Premier League gold medal. For this, he was ridiculed by the media, fans of opposing teams, and even opponents on the field.

The loudest story is with Robin van Persie throwing at the Liverpool captain: “Where’s your Premier League medal?” Gerrad replied nicely: “I don’t have it, but I didn’t betray the team by going to the opponents to get it.” The marvelous yet illuminating tale of the Merseyside captain’s tender spot.

In 2014, Stevie G came very close to closing this gestalt. Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool displayed the coolest football in the Premier League and rushed to the league championship. But the absurd fall of Gerrard in the decisive match with Chelsea surpassed everything – after Stephen’s mistake, the Londoners scored the decisive goal, the gold went to Manchester City.

Eight years later, Gerrard got another chance to hand the title over to his club. True, in an unusual way. After the end of his acting career, Stevie G won the Scottish Championship as Rangers head coach and managed Aston Villa, which sank in November 2021. Gerrard was able to balance the results and save the team from relegation. And in the final round, Villa had a chance to score points from Man City and give Liverpool a solid chance to win the title (it was necessary to beat the Wolves at home).

“I’m disappointed that people are telling Liverpool that securing the title is our main goal,” Gerrard said before the game. – We will give everything to go out on the field and score points for ourselves and our fans. If he helps Liverpool, that’s great.”

“Stevie will take this 100% seriously before I call or do anything. The rest of the club has probably already called him, but I didn’t,” Jurgen Klopp carefully commented on the situation.

And Aston Villa was very close to giving the title to Liverpool. In the 69th minute, the visiting team gave Etihad a 2-0 lead, and Philippe Coutinho, who was not the last player in Liverpool’s history, scored one of the goals.

The fairy tale was close, especially since Liverpool won 3:1 in a parallel game. But then Man City – Rodri’s goal and Gundogan’s duo had a magical 6-minute performance that tipped the scales towards Manchester.

Again, Gerrard failed to make Liverpool champions. However, given the way his coaching career has developed, it can be predicted that Stevie G will definitely get another shot someday. Maybe this time in the role of coach of the club of his life.

💥💥💥 You won’t believe it, but only a few beat this game! Although it may seem very easy to everyone at first!
