Rooney and Lampard interview the Everton manager
Everton are stepping up their efforts to oust Rafa Benitez’s replacement on the bench, with the Telegraph revealing Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard have been shortlisted for sweets.
Everton management announced on Sunday afternoon (16/01) the end of their relationship with Rafa Benitez, blaming him largely for the team’s poor course in the Premier League, which has taken them to 16th place, having entered the table for 48 hours the market in search of the new head of the dressing rooms at “Goodison Park”.
However, despite the fact that its owner Mosiri seems ready to dig deep, the case of finding the new “elite” is not easy. That was illustrated by the three ‘no’s’ the Liverpool Blues received from Jose Mourinho in the previous period, as well as the wreck in which their negotiations with the Belgian Football Association seem to be leading to Roberto Martinez.
At the moment, alongside Martinez, for whom efforts are still underway to terminate his contract with the Belgium national team, former Bayern and Monaco coach Niko Kovac are also candidates, albeit two other names who make the final “gel” to the English public .
According to an exclusive report by The Telegraph, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard are also among the four candidates, with the two former England team-mates likely to go through… Casting for the role of manager, giving an interview to the Everton folks.
However, every case is different. Rooney has one team at the moment, Derby, with whom he is struggling to keep in the Championship amid financial woes plaguing the club, while he has associated his name with Everton, who used their shirt in two different terms wearing.
In contrast, Frank Lampard has been unemployed since being sacked by Chelsea about a year ago and only worked as a BBC commentator for the Three Lions at last Euro 2020.
Duncan Ferguson, the temporary (?) solution
Currently, the Confectioners’ veteran footballer Duncan Ferguson is acting as the team’s head coach, with the Club of Merseyside announcing on Tuesday afternoon (18/1) that he will take on the role of official in the upcoming games (something that has been done in the past took place) with John Ebrel and Leighton Baines and goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly.
