Serie A
Lazio 2-0 Verona: Back on track with Immobile and Alberto
With Ciro Immobile’s header in the 68th minute and Luis Alberto’s icing on the cake in the 90th + 5th minute, Lazio beat Verona 2-0 and returned to success after two disappointing league results.
Lazio won! After an impressive 4-2 win over Feyenoord in the Europa League group stage opener last Thursday, Maurizio Sarri’s side continued their Serie A success as they beat Verona 2-0 at the Olimpico through goals from Immobile and Alberto and Liga returned to winning ways after beating Sampdoria away (1-1) and losing at home to Napoli (1-2).
The first half was balanced and each team had a great chance to score (Basic scored from long-range for the Romans, Henry scored in injury time for the Veronese), but in the second the Eagles improved their performance and in the 68th minute they broke the Gordian League with the “usual suspects” Immobile, who flew to the back post after a cross from the right by Milinkovic-Savic and executed Modipo (1-0).
Verona flirted with the equalizer at 90+2 through Ilic’s shot from an advantageous position, but Provendel threw in a great deal and at 90+5 Lazio ‘secured’ the three points, with Alberto making it 2-0 for the final with a nice drift shot and signing the champions’ third LaLiga win and Verona’s first away defeat.
Lazio: Provendel, Lazzari (76′ Hisai), Patrick, Casale, Marusic, Milinkovic-Savic, Antonio (65′ Vesino), Basic (55′ Alberto), Anderson (65′ Cancellieri), Immobile, Xacani
VERONA: Modipo, Ceccherini (61′ Cabal), Hien, Coppola, Terazzano (61′ Depaoli), Veloso (36′ Tamese), Ilic, Doig, Lazovic (70′ Hrustic), Lasagna (70′ Calon), Henry
