Serie A wants to introduce semi-automatic offside from October
After the VAR scandal Juventus-Salernitana, Serie A wants to go semi-automatically offside before the World Cup.
Technology is increasingly finding its way into football. Semi-automatic offside is already in use in the Champions League, will also be used at the World Cup in Qatar, while the Premier League plans to implement it next season.
Two days after the unimaginable decision that decided the outcome of the Juventus game With Salernitana, Serie A are moving in the same direction when it comes to the use of semi-automatic offside.
Specifically, as Gazzetta dello Sport reports, Italy’s first division team wants to continue implementing the system from October, before the start of the World Cup in Qatar. The goal is to avoid mistakes and speed up decisions.
What exactly is semi-automatic offside?
How exactly are referees helped? As has been revealed, under the roof of each stadium where this technology is used, 12 cameras are placed to “capture” the ball, as well as 29 precision points from each player to calculate each player’s exact position on the field.
Once a decision is made, an exact replica of the phase is created in 3D animation, which is shown on both the stadium matrices and the TV receivers, so everyone – spectators and TV viewers – knows exactly what happened at each phase.
