Atalanta left the Olimpico with a win over Roma and after 7 games moved up to the top of Serie A.

Roma and Atalanta fought for the top of Serie A after 7 games in the “Olimpico”, with the guests being the ultimate winners. Giorgio Scalvini’s goal sent the Bergamaskis into 1st place, confirming they have high hopes for another season.

The Giallorossi came on strong in a shared possession game. With Nicolo Zaniolo and Paulo Dybala in the lead, they got into positions to execute them but were quite misguided in the final effort. Instead, Atalanta found the goal against the flow of the game through Giorgio Scalvini in the 35th minute.

In the second part, the home team tried even harder and on top of that lost their coach! Jose Mourinho once protested loudly and was sent off with his staff preventing him from entering the pitch. Be that as it may, the Portuguese coach will miss his side’s next game, Giuseppe Meazza’s game against Inter.

Mourinho’s sending off somehow helped the Romans, who fired in volleys for about 15 minutes, but their best efforts went straight into Juan Musso’s arms.

As Atalanta withstood the blows they counterattacked, already having an early run that was cleared on the line by Tammy Abraham. The 1-0 was maintained until the end and Gian Piero Gasperini’s team took the lead in the standings.
