Dejan Stankovic is the new coach of Sampdoria as the Genoa club announced the signing of the 44-year-old Serb. The agreement between the two sides is valid until June 2023 and includes an option to extend it by another year.
The veteran midfielder, who played for Lazio and Inter Milan during his footballing career, worked at Red Star until August, which he left after 2.5 years.
He was quite a successful footballer in Italy, winning one championship with Lazio and five with Inter, with whom he also celebrated the 2010 Champions League Cup.
Stankovic succeeds Marco Giambaolo, who saw the “exit door” after the 3-0 home defeat against promoted Monza. This result left Sampdoria bottom of the table after eight games with just two points.
