Milan – Juventus 2:0: A tour de force in a league game

The big Serie A game found a clear winner. Milan prevailed 2-0 from Juventus at “Giuseppe Meazza” on the 9th matchday and, in contrast to the “Bianconeri”, made a clear statement about their goals for this year.

The hosts started with their well-known many absentees, with Stefano Pioli being forced to return Tsiprian Tatarousanou in goal, as well as Matteo Gambia and Tommaso Pombega. On the other hand, Massimiliano Allegri didn’t have the suspended Angel Di Maria available after his three assists midweek against Maccabi Haifa, instead bringing Leonardo Bonucci back into the line-up.

The ‘Rossoneri’ were unable to control the game for the first few minutes after coming off a poor performance and a bitter defeat by Chelsea in London. Juventus excelled in midfield thanks to Allegri’s 4-4-2, although Arkadiusz Milik and Dusan Vlahovic didn’t get as sated as they would have liked.

After a quarter of consecutive Juventus finals, the home team equalized and began to enter the field of “Bianconeri”. In the 20th minute they had a post with Rafael Leao who was quite active and had another scoring chance. But the goalscorer was Fikayo Tomori, who “stole” the ball from Olivier Giroud’s shot during the delays in the first part and scored it from close range to make it 1-0.

The second half began with Milan taking the lead, in the 54th minute Braim Diath scored the 2-0 on the break. The goal not only didn’t wake up the guests, but made the Pioli players even more aggressive. Gaps in Juventus’ defense became numerous and Milan’s opponents tried to exploit them, but Wojciech Szczesny said no.

Substitutions and the home side’s willingness to protect their backs put the action on Juventus’ pitch, but apart from a Milik header and some body shots, there wasn’t much more Juventus could do. The 2-0 victory gave Milan a boost in the title race from which the Bianconeri were far behind.
