Atalanta: Sapata on the sidelines with the medical staff except for at least 10 weeks

Duvan Sapata does not want to undergo surgery and is therefore expected to be out for around 10 weeks, missing most of the rest of the season and the Europa League games with Olympiakos.

Duvan Sapata will miss Atalanta’s two games against Olympiakos in the Europa League round of 16 play-offs and is unlikely to play again this year.

The Colombian striker injured his forearm in the game against Cagliari and traveled to Turku, Finland to be treated by Dr. Sakari Orava, a doctor specializing in such injuries.

The 30-year-old international returned to Italy and told the club’s medical staff that he did not want to undergo surgery to try to overcome the damage with a conservative method. Atalanta’s doctors asked him to lie down on the operating table for a more confident and perhaps less time-consuming recovery, but Sapanda appears to be unwavering, according to Italian media.

If he chooses to go conservative, he’ll be out for around 8-10 weeks and then need at least two weeks of training to get back into shape, meaning his season is likely to end early.
