Dino Bazzo for Viali: “I’m also afraid that there will be an investigation into the substances we are taking”
Dino Baggio has spoken out controversially about the death of Gianluca Vialli, arguing that the substances administered to several players in the 1990s should be thoroughly investigated.
Italian football mourned in less than a month two important figures it had highlighted in previous decades: Sinisa Mihajlovic died of leukemia at the age of 53 and Gianluca Vialli died at the age of 58 losing his uneven battle with cancer.
Both were revered by the world and left countless friends, including one of them, Dino Bazzo, who gave an interview to the Italian TV channel “Tv7” and left serious suspicions about several medical and sporting practices used in the country’s clubs during the year became 90s.
“There should be an investigation into the substances we were taking at the time. Doping has always been there. We should understand if certain supplements have done any harm over the years.” stressed the former midfielder of Torino, Inter Milan, Juventus, Parma, Lazio and the Italian national team to complete:
“I’m also afraid that’s happened to too many players. We need to see if certain substances did any good or not and if they got flushed out or stayed in.
I have wonderful memories of Gianluca, he was a man in the dressing room and ready to help the youngsters. I was his teammate at 21 and he always had a good word for each of us.”
