Inter 1-0 Atalanta: Skriniar’s replacement sends them through to the Coppa Italia semifinals
In a tense night for the absent Milan Skriniar, Inter’s substitute in the middle Matteo Darmian scored the goal in a 1-0 win over Atalanta in the Coppa Italia semi-finals.
“Giuseppe Meazza” simmered with Milan Skriniar and his attempt to leave that Inter to Paris with immediate effect, having already signed a preliminary contract for the summer. The Slovakia defender was persona non grata but his replacement in the starting XI, Matteo Darmian, was the Nerazzurri’s hero after scoring the goal 1-0 and the qualifying win at their expense Atalantaat quarter finals from Coppa Italia.
The game was pretty even and crooked. Romelu Lukaku remembered his good nature and threatened the guest defense, but couldn’t find the net with the opportunities that presented themselves.
In the 57th minute Darmian, promoted despite playing as a third stopper in place of Skriniar (not in the squad), pulled in a nice shot to open the scoring for Inter. The cup winners managed to hold the lead to the end and advance to the next round where they will face Juventus winners – Lazio.
