AC Milan played as champions and were beaten 2-0 by Atalanta on the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the top 4 Serie A clash.

Milan prevailed against Atalanta and with that 2-0 on Matchday 24 of Serie A at the San Siro, he overtook Inter for second place and left the Bergamaskis well behind in the battle for the top 4 leading to the Champions League.

The “Rosoneri” came into the field very strongly and missed a unique chance with Olivier Giroud in the first few minutes. With a three-man defense and a 3-5-2 arrangement, they “nullified” all the trump cards of the guests who did not reach a final in the entire 1st part!

On the contrary, Milan had several good moments and in the 25th minute an unlikely shot by Teo Hernandez hit the bar and Juan Musso’s back, landing in the net to make it 1-0.

The 2nd part started with the same picture for both teams. Milan were absolutely dominant on the pitch, simply allowing Gianpiero Gasperini’s men two unlucky finals.

Victory seemed certain, so Stefano Pioli gave Zlatan Ibrahimovic the opportunity to return to action after nine months and at the age of 41 years and 146 days to beat Alessandro Costacurta’s record (41 years and 25 days).

The icing on the cake came from Junior Mesias in the closing minutes as Milan drove to a magnificent win.
