Inter – Juventus 0-1: Great double in ‘Meatsa’ with Kostic and Granite defence
Juventus clinched a huge 1-0 win over Inter Milan at the Meaça, with golden goalkeeper Kostic taking a big step towards a European exit and injuring the Nerazzurri in their bid for a top-four finish.
Inter and Juventus went into the Derby d’Italia on Sunday evening (19.03.) after qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League and Europa League respectively in high spirits, but only one of them smiled in the final that was Massimo Allegri’s.
The Bianconeri not only withstood the pressure from Milan in the first half, but found a goal in the 23rd minute with a superb Kostic shot from inside the box to play a masterful second-half defense and hold on to a huge win , keeping them in orbit around Europe.
On the other hand, Inter were caught in the defensive clutches of the Torineseand suffered a second consecutive defeat in the league (after 1-2 at home to Spezia) and ninth overall in this year’s league to now find themselves in 3rd place and -2 behind second-placed Lazio.
It should be noted that this is the first time since 1976/77 that Juventus have not only won a double against Inter in a Serie A season, but kept a clean sheet in both games.
The match
Inter came into the Derby d’Italia stronger and had their first good moment in just the 2nd minute, Barella’s shot was boxed wide by Cesny to keep the momentum going into the first 20 minutes and have another good moment at 18′.
The protagonist was again Barella, who played an exemplary “1-2” with Lukaku, with the Italian international defensive midfielder making a powerful right-foot shot from inside the box, but Cesni again declared “present” and parried with his chest.
Five minutes later, the nets were moving, but at the opponent’s goal. Rabio nicely countered Juventus, combining with Vlahovic and feeding Kostic, the Serbian winger curled a left-footed diagonal shot into the left corner of Onana’s net to make it 0-1 (the goal was awarded after four minutes, VAR checked a possible hand ball from either Rabiot or Vlahovic).
That goal changed the mood of the two teams, with Allegri’s team gaining the upper hand and having another dangerous moment in the 29th minute when Soule fired into the box (missed) and Inzaghi lost his temper with her by the end of the first part to be garrulous and meaningless.
In the second half, Inter got the ball at their feet to put pressure on their opponents and Juventus left their opponent to injure them on the counterattack, with the two coaches making changes from the bench (Mikitarian and D’Ambrosio first new Faces for the Nerazzurri, Chiesa and Cuadrado for the Bianconeri), but the good phases are missing from 45′ to 70′.
Inter’s first good moment of the second half was a dangerous turn from Dumfries in the 75th minute when Gatti made a save by catching Lukaku while Juventus countered twice in the following minutes but Vlahovic and Chiesa did not making their best possible choice in the last pass.
In the last quarter, the picture of the derby did not change dramatically, with the Nerazzurri camped outside the Juventus area but failing to score with Mikitarian and Tsalhanolgou, while the Biaconeri, for their part, kept finding 0-0 opportunities. 2 on the counter but throw them in the trash.
However, even in added time, Inter failed to find the big phase they were looking for, with Juventus keeping the 0-1 draw as the apple of their eye and continuing their upward trajectory, claiming four straight wins in all competitions.
