Menian’s tongue-in-cheek post about the changes to the IFAB regulations on goalkeepers and penalties
Mike Menian has tweeted about the changes to the new IFAB regulations on goalkeepers and penalties.
The IFAB has announced changes to the football regulations that will come into effect from 1 July and one of them involves changes to how goalkeepers behave in penalty shoot-outs.
Goalkeepers in particular are now banned by lawDelaying a player in their run or “harassing” them by moving over goal and hitting the posts, and making it clear that this is to avoid unfairly distracting opponents and respect the game.
AC Milan’s French goalkeeper Mike Menian made a tongue-in-cheek contribution, saying that the new IFAB regulations in 2026 will be to… stand with your back to the shot.
“New IFAB Penalty Rules 2026:
- Goalkeepers must have their backs to the shot.
- During a save, the attacker is awarded an indirect free kick“.
